Introduction (Barbie Movie Cast and Full Review, 2023)

Barbie is a 2023 American fantasy comedy film directed by Greta Gerwig and written by Gerwig and Noah Baumbach.[6] Based on Mattel’s Barbie fashion dolls, this is the first live-action Barbie movie after many computer-animated television movies live-to-video and streaming. The film follows Barbie (Margot Robbie) and Ken (Ryan Gosling) on a journey of self-discovery after an existential crisis. It has a cast that includes America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell.

A live-action Barbie movie was announced in September 2009 by Universal Pictures and produced by Laurence Mark. Development began in April 2014, when Sony Pictures acquired the film rights. Following the change of writers and director and the casting of Amy Schumer and later Anne Hathaway as Barbie, the rights passed to Warner Bros. Photos from October 2018. Robbie was cast in 2019 and Gerwig was announced as a director and writer with Baumbach in 2021. The rest of the cast was announced in early 2022. The main film was made at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden, England and at Venice Beach Skatepark in Los Angeles from March to July 2022.

Barbie premiered at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on July 9, 2023 and was released in the United States on July 21, 2023 by Warner Bros. Photo. Its simultaneous release with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer led to the “Barbenheimer” phenomenon on social media, which encouraged audiences to watch the two films as two parts. The film received excellent reviews and grossed over $472 million worldwide, becoming the 10th highest-grossing film of 2023.

Robbie revealed that he wanted Gal Gadot to play Barbie in the film, but Gadot was unavailable due to scheduling conflicts. Gerwig wanted her regular co-stars Timothée Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan to appear, but none were available. Also, Bowen Yang, Dan Levy, and Ben Platt discussed for Ken; Jonathan Groff was Allan’s first choice but he turned it down.

He chose to use a filming technique from the 1950s, while Barbie was a popular toy since 1959, with the aim of recreating the look of the time. In addition, he looks at Powell and Pressburger’s A Matter of Life and Death (1946) to understand how visual effects are used to express the ideas of a film. To highlight Barbie and Ken’s dramatic nature when they face the hardships of the world, he asked Robbie and Gosling to pretend they were in a movie.
